Ep. 4.16 "A" (Season 4 Finale)

We open with a flashback of the group’s time back at the prison.  Glenn, Maggie and Rick have come back from a run.  Herschel is there to greet them and Carl still has his gun.  Rick takes a cane from Carol and starts killing fence walkers.  Then we are in what I assume is the present.  Rick is covered in blood sitting against an old Bronco alone.

Michonne, Rick and Carl are in search of food.  While checking their hunting snares, Carl asks if they are close to Terminus.  Rick tells him he thinks they are.  Carl asks what they will tell the people there.  Will they lie about the people they’ve killed and the things they’ve done or will they tell the truth.  Rick doesn’t exactly answer him, but tells Carl they will them who they are.  Carl then asks who exactly are we.

Quick flashback to Herschel waking Rick up one morning.  It’s early and he wants Rick to help him with something.  He tells Rick he won’t need his gun because it will just get in the way.  Cut back to the present where Rick, Carl and Michonne find an old Bronco where they camp for the night.  Carl sleeps in the truck while Michonne and Rick talk by the fire.  Rick thinks Terminus will be a safe place with a system.  Michonne is not so sure and wonders if the whole thing is “legit”.  They hear something in the woods, but nothing happens so they let their guard down.  Rick wonders if Terminus will let them in and Michonne reminds him the Governer took people in.  Rick concedes that they won’t know anything until they know.  So hopefully it will turn out okay.

All of a sudden they have guns to their heads.  It’s Joe and his Claim Gang.  We don’t see Daryl with them.  Joe tells Rick “you screwed up asshole”.  He says today is a day of reckoning and Rick’s going to get what he deserves.  Apparently it’s New Years Eve (if not for real then it is in Joe’s head) so Joe starts to count down the final seconds to blowing Ricks head open, when Daryl appears out of nowhere and tells him to stop.  Rick and Michonne look at Daryl, but no one says anything.  Daryl tells Joe they are good people and they are going to let them go.  Daryl tells Joe to kill him instead.  Joe says Daryl is a liar because he called Rick good people but he can’t be because Rick killed their friend.  The gang starts beating up Daryl and Carl gets pulled out of the truck with a knife to his neck.

Rick begs the men to just take him because he was the one who killed their friend.  Joe tells him how things are going to take place.  First, they will beat Daryl to death.  When they are done with him they will start on Michonne, then Carl, and then he will shoot Rick in the head.  Then they will be square.  Rick tells them to let Carl go.  Then he knocks his head backwards against Joe.  The gun goes off and Joe staggers back.  Rick starts going through some sort of crazy thing in his mind.  Will he snap back into defense mode Rick after he’s been a farmer for so long?  After a beat he gets up and goes after Joe.  Joe gets him down for a minute, but that just wakes up the beast in Rick even more.  Michonne sees her chance to attack her captor.  Rick bites a chunk out of Joe’s neck, Michonne shoots Tony in the head and then Rick stabs the guy who had Carl.  Michonne holds Carl while Rick stabs the guy repeatedly and we get a close up of Carl with a Norman Bates kind of look in his eyes.

Flashback again to Rick and Herschel, Herschel thinks they should start farming and catching the wild animals to tame them.  He wants Rick’s help and he wants Rick to teach Carl.  Rick is hesitant at first because he thinks he’s needed to help defend the prison and go on runs.  Herschel says they have a chance to make a life and make things better.  Flash forward to the present where we see Rick sitting by the Bronco.  Michonne is inside with Carl who is asleep.  Daryl helps Rick clean up.  He tells Rick he and Beth were together and that she is gone.  He met up with the gang, but he didn’t know how bad they were.  Daryl says he was going to leave the gang while they were attacking Rick, but then he saw who it was that the gang was going after.  He feels responsible.  Rick tells him he’s not responsible and that Daryl is his brother.  Daryl tells Rick anyone would’ve done what he did to the guy the night before, but Rick says a normal person wouldn’t.  He says he has to do what he does to keep Carl safe.

They decide to enter Terminus from the woods since they don’t know who the people there are.  They split up to come in at different directions and Rick asks if Carl wants to go with him, but Carl picks Michonne.  While they are walking,  Michonne tells Carl how Andre died.  They were at a refuge camp.  People were giving up.  She was coming back from a run and saw that the fences for the camp were down.  She found her boyfriend and his friend.  They had been high.  They were bit and she let them turn, then she took out their teeth and tied chains around their necks.  It kept her safe from the walkers.  She says she was gone for a long time, but Andrea, Rick and Carl all brought her back.  She tells Carl he doesn’t have to be afraid of his dad.  Carl says that he isn’t who Rick thinks he is, that he is a monster too.

Rick buries some guns in the woods just in case they need to get away.  They crawl over the fence and go inside.  They find the room where they are broadcasting the message on the radio.  They meet a guy named Gareth.  He wonders if they are there to rob them, but Rick says they want sanctuary.  Gareth is going to take them to be welcomed, but first he has to see all of their weapons.  After they pat them down they give them back their weapons.  They take them to get something to eat.  Rick asks why they let people in and the guy says it makes them stronger.  Then Rick notices a chain hanging from the guys belt loop to his pocket.  He grabs the guy and pulls it out.  It’s the watch Herschel gave to Glenn.  Rick pulls his gun and asks the guy where he got the watch.

Back to the prison where Patrick is playing with legos.  Rick had grabbed them on a run for Carl, but he wouldn’t touch them.  He was too busy cleaning his gun.  Rick realizes Herschel is right.  He asks Carl to come help him with something.  Carl grabs his gun, but Rick tells him to leave it because it will only get in the way.  Back to the present and the standoff between Terminus and Ricks group.  The guy says he got the watch off of a dead person.  Rick sees someone wearing the riot gear and Gareth says they got that off a dead police officer and Maggie’s poncho off of a clothesline.  The Terminus people start shooting and all hell breaks loose.  They try and find a way out, but are blocked in.  They pass a bunch of fresh skeletons.  They hear people calling for help and get into a room filled with candles.  They get out and almost to the fence, but they are surrounded.  Gareth makes them drop their weapons and go into a rail car where they find Maggie and Glenn and the others.  Rick says they are going to be pretty stupid when they find out they screwed with the wrong people.

End credits…

So, Terminus is bad.  Who saw that coming?  Probably a lot of us.  I’m getting a strong cannibalistic vibe from these people.  Thank God Rick pulled a gun on that guy before they could eat whatever was being barbecued.  Plus, when they were running they ran right by a pile of fresh skeletons still covered in blood, but not a drop of meat left on them.  So, Terminus is a creepy, cannibalistic cult… (?)  That’s how I’m calling it for now.  I guess we have until next October to let our conspiracy theories crowd the internet.  Well until next fall…

Ep. 4.15 "Us"

During their trek, Eugene bores Tara with tales of how the virus might have killed off the dinosaurs and quizzes her on what kind of video games she liked.  Abraham tells Tara to get some sleep because she hasn’t since they met.  He says he had a theory that she was in love with Glenn, but then he saw her checking out Rosita.  As they continue to follow the railroad tracks, they see Maggie’s message and Glenn starts running.

The biker gang is asleep out in the woods.  They almost get attacked by walkers, but have a   barbed wire perimeter in place to protect them.  Daryl isn’t there, so they think he left them, but he is actually out hunting breakfast.  One of the gang members tries to claim a rabbit Daryl kills.  He and Daryl almost start to fight until Joe breaks it up and starts to explain the rules of the group to Daryl.  All you have to do is say “claim” and whatever it is becomes yours.

Rick, Michonne and Carl only have about a day’s water left.  Carl and Michonne have a bet on who can stay on the rail lines the longest.  Michonne loses and has to give up a candy bar.

Abraham wants to stop and let the group rest, but Glenn doesn’t want to.  They find a tower to use as shelter, but there is a walker in it.  Tara gets pushed down while Rosita and Abraham try and protect Eugene.  The walker plunges down with a splat.  Glenn asks if Tara is okay and if she wants to keep going.  She says she wants to.  Rosita calls Glenn out and says that Tara will do whatever he wants because she thinks she owes him and he’s taking advantage of that.  Glenn says that if they keep walking until sundown he will give Eugene his riot gear so they decide to keep going.

Joe continues explaining the rules of the group to Daryl.  Daryl says he really wants no part of it and doesn’t intend to stay with them, but Joe continues to try and persuade him that he is a part of their group.  They find an old garage to stay in for the night.  It’s filled with cars emptied of their gasoline.  Most of the gang claims all of the cars to sleep in which leaves Daryl to sleep on the floor.

Glenn finds another message from Maggie just before a dark tunnel.  Glenn of course, wants to go through, but Abraham thinks they should detour around.  He knows Glenn will not waste the time going around so he gives Glenn and Tara a couple of cans of food before they part ways.  Eugene tells Tara he thinks she hot and she tells him she’s into girls.  He says he knows that.

In the tunnel Glenn and Tara come across walkers stuck in the rubble of a cave in.  Once they get on the other side there is still a huge group of walkers to contend with.  Tara thinks they need to find another way around, but Glenn wants to push through.  The walkers get distracted and they start to climb over the rubble, but Tara gets stuck.

Abraham’s group finds a minivan.  They try to get back on track.  Eugene wants to navigate, however, it’s not really his strong point.  Abraham is asleep in the backseat and Rosita is driving.  He tells her to stop driving and she sees they are on the train tracks.  He planned getting there to see if Tara and Glenn made it because he couldn’t leave them behind.

One of the gang members continues to try and start a fight with Daryl, so accuses him of stealing his part of the rabbit.  Joe asks if the guy planted it there and he says he didn’t, but Joe saw him do it so he knows he’s lying.  The gang beats up the guy for lying.  Those are the rules.  Daryl wakes up to find that they’ve beaten the guy to death.  They see a Terminus sign and Joe tells Daryl they are going there to find a guy.  Some man killed one of their gang and left him to turn.  The turned member attacked the gang.  Tony, the guy who was choked until he passed out, is the only one who saw the man.  Daryl sees the candy bar wrapper left by Michonne and Carl.

Tara tells Glenn to leave her and go find Maggie, but he won’t.  They are stuck until headlights show up and a blaze of gunfire takes out the walkers.  It’s Maggie’s group and they are with Abraham, Rosita and Eugene.  Glenn introduces Tara to Maggie, but neglects to mention that Tara was at the prison with the Governor.  Sasha and Bob pledge to go with Abraham, Eugene and Rosita after they get to Terminus.  They need to get supplies and a better vehicle and possibly some recruits.  They make it into Terminus.  The gate is open and it seems like it’s pretty easy to get into.  They meet a woman named Mary who offers them a chance to clean up and get something to eat.

End credits…

Terminus sounds too good to be true.  And why was it not guarded against walkers or any enemies?  The group was able to just walk in there.  Something’s fishy!

Ep 4.14 "The Grove"

Carol has watch duty for the evening while they hunker down under a bridge and Lizzie joins her.  Lizzie asks if there will be kids at Terminus and Carol says there may be if there were people there to take care of them like Tyrese took care of the girls.  Lizzie explains that she actually saved Tyrese.  People were shooting at him so she shot them.  Lizzie asks Carol if she had kids and Carol tells her about Sophia and how sweet she was.  Lizzie asks if Carol misses her daughter and Carol says she does everyday.  Lizzie asks if Carol would miss her, but Carol says she won’t have a chance too and insists that Lizzie go get some sleep.

The next day Carol tends to Tyrese’s wounded arm.  He talks about how tough Lizzie is and Carol tells him she is confused about the walkers and what they are.  They walk along the train tracks and they smell a fire, but aren’t sure where its coming from.  They stop to rest and Carol goes off to get water.  Of course while they are waiting a walker comes stumbling down the tracks.  The walker is half starved and falls.  Tyrese goes to smash its head with a hammer, but Lizzie stops him.  She says they don’t always have to kill the walkers.

Carol takes Mika with her to look for water and uses the opportunity to tell Mika she needs to toughen up,.  Mika says she doesn’t need to be able to kill people because she can run, but Carol says that’s not enough.  Mika says she’s not like Lizzie, she’s not “messed up”, she can kill walkers, but she can’t kill people.  Carol asks her why she wouldn’t kill the people that attacked the prison and Mika says she feels sorry for them because they probably weren’t that way before.  Talk about sisters being polar opposites.  There has to be some good in the world with the bad.  I’m glad Mica is the way she is.

They find a house and go retrieve Tyrese and Lizzie.  There is a pecan grove.  They decide to stay a day or two and get their strength back.  Once they get closer to the house they start to see smoke from the fire they smelled earlier, but still don’t know where it is or what it’s for.  Perhaps the cabin that Daryl and Beth burned down…    Tyrese and Carol knock on the door of the house and tell the girls to stay outside until they come get them.  Lizzie gets upset while they are alone outside and tells Mika it’s because she knows if the adults find walkers they are going to kill them.  Mika tells her sister that walkers are dead and bad, but Lizzie argues.  Then a walker comes out and falls over the railing coming towards them.  Mica has the gun and shoots the walker while Lizzie screams and holds Judith.  Carol and Tyrese come back outside.  Lizzie starts crying and they think it’s because she was scared, but she says it’s because they killed the walker.  (Time to cut the creepy kid loose man.)  They relax in the house like a cute little family.  Carol asks Lizzie if she’s still upset and Lizzie says she’s trying to understand “m’am”.

In the morning Carol see’s Lizzie running around with a walker.  She goes outside to kill it but Lizzie tries to stop her.  Carol stabs the walker in the head and Lizzie goes into a rage saying the walker was her friend and was playing with her.  The walker wasn’t doing anything wrong. .  She says Carol was wrong for killing the lady walker and grabs her head and repeats, “you don’t understand” several times.  Carol and Mika go deer hunting.  Carol tells Mika that she is smarter than Lizzie and she needs to watch out for her sister because she doesn’t understand.  They come across a deer and Carol tells Mika to shoot it, but she can’t.

Tyrese tells Carol he agrees with Mika and thinks they should stay at the house.  He knows Carol and trusts her, and they could have a quiet life there.  Mika catches Lizzie feeding a mouse to the walker they left on the train tracks.  Mika tells her sister the walkers are bad, but Lizzie says she can hear them.  They just want her to change and be like them.  She holds her hand out to the walker, but then a half a dozen more burning walkers come out of the woods so they run.  They get to Carol and Tyrese who arm them and they all shoot the walkers, even Lizzie.

Afterwards, Carol asks Lizzie if she understands that walkers are bad now and Lizzie tells Carol she knows what she has to do now.  Mika says she doesn’t want to hurt anyone or be mean, but Lizzie says sometimes they have to be mean.  Carol and Tyrese decide it’s a good idea to stay at the grove for a while.  They can go to Terminus someday, but he isn’t ready to be around people yet.  Tyrese tells Carol he sees Karen in his dreams and sometimes he sees someone killing her.  Carol gets upset and almost admits that she killed Karen, but instead she and Tyrese hug.

They come back to the house and find Lizzie covered in blood.  Judith is lying on a blanket and Mika is behind her.  Lizzie tells them it’s okay, Mika will come back because she didn’t hurt her brain.  When Carol goes to take the knife away Lizzie pulls a gun on her.  She tells Carol she has to wait for Mika to turn so Carol will see that Lizzie is right and they are not bad.  Carol gets the gun from Lizzie by telling her they can wait.  She wants Tyrese and Lizzie to take Judith back to the house though.  Lizzie says she was just about to turn Judith too, but Carol tells her it’s not the right time because Judith can’t even walk yet.  If I were Tyrese right now I’d be saying “you’re fucking crazy if you think I’m walking anywhere alone with this crazy bitch!”

Carol says she’ll tie Mika up so she doesn’t run away if Lizzie will go back to the house with Tyrese.  He takes Lizzie and Judith.  Once they are out of sight Carol breaks down and cries.  (Yeah, you should’ve done something sooner.)  When Carol gets back to the house Tyrese tells her he cleared out Lizzie’s room to make sure she didn’t have any knives, but she had a shoebox full of mice.  Lizzie confessed that she was the one who was feeding the walkers at the prison.  He thinks maybe she killed Karen and David, but doesn’t understand how she could have dragged them away.  Tyrese asks what they should do and Carol says she will take her because her and Judith can’t be under the same roof.  Tyrese thinks they can both help her, but Carol says it’s too late.  Lizzie is the way she is and she won’t change.  Carol is upset that she didn’t see it before and that Lizzie can’t be around other people.

Carol takes Lizzie out to pick some wildflowers for Mika.  They see the smoke from the fire is white so it has gone out.  Lizzie thinks Carol is mad at her and apologizes.  Carol tells Lizzie she loves her and for her to look at the flowers and she shoots Lizzie while Tyrese watches from the window.  They bury the girls.  Later that night Carol gives Tyrese her gun and tells him that she killed Karen to protect the other people.  It wasn’t Lizzie or a stranger.  She tells him to do what he has to do.  He asks if Karen knew what was happening or if she was scared, but Carol says it was quick.  He grabs the table and the gun, but after a moment he lets it go and says he is going to forgive her but he will never forget.  He knows she feels the weight of it every day so he will forgive her.  They decide they should go to Terminus.

End credits...

Wow, I knew Lizzie was crazy all along, but OMG I can't believe she killed Mika.  Thank god she didn't get to Judith.  Only two more episodes left how much crazier can it get?

Ep 4.13 "Alone"

We start with a flashback where Daryl and Glenn find Bob wandering down the road.  Daryl asks him the three required questions for admission into the camp.  They ask if he’d like to join them.

Daryl is teaching Beth how to track and hunt.  She tracks a walker, but gets caught in something and falls.  Daryl kills the walker and checks Beth’s ankle.  She has trouble walking later so Daryl gives her a piggyback ride.  They come across a funeral home and a cemetery.  They stop at one grave of a “beloved father” who died in the 1870’s.  They go inside the funeral home.  It’s clean as if someone as been taking care of it and Daryl is worried they may still be around.  They only use some of the person’s food and decide to stay there for the night.  Daryl lies down in an empty coffin while Beth play’s the piano and sings.

The next day Daryl and Beth are going to eat when they hear something outside.  Daryl checks it out, but it’s a dog.  Daryl reaches out to it, but it runs away.  Beth wants to leave a thank you note in case the people come back, but Daryl thinks maybe they should stay there.  She says he does believe some good people are still left and wants to know what changed his mind.  They look at each other and she realizes she changed his mind.  They hear noise at the door again and think it’s the dog, but it’s a gang of walkers.  Daryl tells Beth to run, but she says she’s not going to leave him.  Daryl gets trapped downstairs and tries to box the walkers in.  He finally gets out and runs to the woods.  He see’s Beth’s bag and a car hauls ass away presumably with Beth in it.

Daryl runs as far as he can in the direction the car was going until he finally collapses when he comes to a crossroads.  He is sitting in the middle of the street when men walk up on him.  Of course it’s the gang that Rick ran into.  The leader, Joe, talks to him and Daryl puts down his crossbow.

Maggie, Bob and Sasha are in a dense fog surrounded by walkers.  They are fending off the walkers with knives, but Sasha has to pull out the gun to finish them off.

Maggie wants to continue to search for Glenn, but Sasha and Bob think they should wait until the fog clears.  They only have six bullets left.  They come across the Terminus sign and Bob tells them about the message he heard on the radio.  Maggie wants to go because she thinks Glenn would’ve gone there.  Sasha doesn’t want too, but Bob is on Maggie’s side.  They decide to go.  Later Sasha and Bob talk alone.  Sasha thinks they should bunker down in a building they may find in one of the towns.

Sasha and Bob wake up to find Maggie gone.  Bob wants to catch up to her.  Meanwhile Maggie comes up to another sign for Terminus.  She’s about to etch a message into the side, but a female walker comes up.  She stabs her in the head and then opens up her abdomen.  Sasha and Bob come up on where Maggie stopped and see a note in blood that tells Glenn to go to Terminus.  Bob thinks Sasha is scared to go to Terminus because she believes Tyrese is dead and if he’s not there that could confirm it.

Bob accuses Sasha of being afraid, but she says she’s not.  He says he won’t leave Maggie out there alone, but Sasha doesn’t want to go after Maggie.  Bob kisses Sasha, but she still won’t go with him.  She decides to stay at the building they found.  She goes inside and looks around.  She looks out the window and sees Maggie lying in a pile of dead walkers.  She touches the window, which falls out attracting all kinds of walkers to Maggie’s position.  Sasha runs to help her.  Luckily they fight off the walkers.  Maggie asks where Bob is and Sasha tells her he went looking for her.  Maggie tells Sasha that Glenn is not dead.  She was there waiting for Bob and Sasha because she can’t do it by herself.  Sasha decides to go.  They catch up to Bob.

Glenn see’s the Terminus sign.  End credits…

What will happen to poor Daryl?  He opens up and Beth get's taken away from him.  Now he's with a psychotic motorcycle gang.  Will he revert back to his old ways?

Ep 4.12 "Still"

It’s nighttime.  Daryl and Beth are running from something.  They see a car and Beth tries to see if it will start.  They hear walkers so they have to hide themselves in the trunk of the car.  A thunderstorm starts.  They end up staying in the trunk all night.  Finally it is quiet so they open the trunk door and climb out.  They salvage what they can from the trunk and go on their way.  Daryl tries to hunt for food while Beth starts a fire and sets up alarms around camp.  Daryl tracks down a rattlesnake for dinner.  Beth tells Daryl she needs to drink some alcohol and asks him to go find some with her. He doesn’t answer so she goes off by herself.  Of course she runs into a small group of walkers.  She’s able to deter all but one and gets ready to kill him if he discovers her, but at the last second he turns away.  As she turns around she see’s Daryl their with his crossbow ready.

He takes her back to their small camp, but she’s not happy.  She’s tired of staring at a fire and doing nothing.  She doesn’t understand how Daryl cannot have any feelings.  She says she can take care of herself and she’s going to get a damn drink.  He comes with her and they find a golf clubhouse.  They get in through a back entrance.  There are walkers hanging from the ceiling, people who killed themselves and came back.  Daryl finds money and packs it into a bag.  Beth asks him why he’s keeping it, but walkers are breaking down the door so they have to go hide.  They go further into the building.  Beth finds a bottle of alcohol, but gets attacked by a walker and has to use it as a weapon.  After they struggle, she finally puts a knife in the walker’s skull.  She sarcastically thanks Daryl for his help.  He says she said she could take care of herself and she did.

Beth finds some new clothes in the shop.  There is a dead woman hanging with jewelry on and a sign that says “Rich Bitch”.  Beth asks Daryl to help take her down and he covers her with a blanket instead. While they are still exploring a grandfather clock starts chiming which brings the attention of all the walkers.  Daryl and Beth get cornered, but Daryl is able to kill them all.  Unfortunately in the process he gets a walkers head guts all over Beth’s new shirt.

They finally make it to the bar.  She finds a bottle of peach schnapps and asks Daryl if it’s good.  He says no, but it’s the only thing that’s left.  Beth finally breaks down and cries.  Daryl doesn’t know what to do.  He takes the bottle of alcohol and breaks it telling Beth he’s not going to let her first drink be peach schnapps, and they leave.  He takes her to an old cabin he and Michonne found one time and finds a stash of moonshine.  She drinks it, but thinks it’s disgusting.  They decide to play a drinking game where they ask each other question’s.  It leads to Daryl getting upset and rattling out things from his time as a child.  He gets mad and drags her outside to make her shoot the walker with a crossbow.  She finally stabs the walker in the head.  Daryl gets mad and starts yelling at her about how everyone they know is dead and they will never see them again.  He is mad at himself for stopping his search for the Governor because maybe if he had found him everyone would be okay and Herschel would still be alive.  She hugs him.

He tells her that before the apocalypse he was nothing.  All he did was follow Merle around and let him tell him what to do.  She says he’s changed, he was built for this world and he’ll be the last man standing.  She thinks they should burn the house down because it represents Daryl’s past and they do.
